Football: Tor Pendente this afternoon against FUCM

virtustorpendenteVirtus Tor Pendente coach and managers have doubts over defenders Samuel Ward and Martino Delio for the meeting with Dopolavoro UFAM (the FUCM team, organised by the trade union).

The situation for the team is quite alarming: centre-backs missed the 1-1 draw with Atlantis United at the weekend because of minor knocks. Midfielder Sebastian Olivetti has been struggling with a calf injury and apparently missed training Striker Salvatore Diliberti was also absent from Tor Pendente’s final training session ahead of the Federal Championship tie.

The Virtus is boosted by the availability of midfielder Michelangelo Vassalli, who has been added to the squad as a home-grown player and could make his debut in the competition against the trade unionists. Coach said: “He’s an exciting young player making good progress all the time and he is someone who is going to play a big part in the future of Virtus Tor Pendente. He’s an exceptional talent.”

Centre-back Romolo Mazza is likely to start if Dario Albano is not available, and the board says the players know they need to make amends for a slow start to the season, including the draw against Atlantis United.

“We are disappointed,” said Mazza, 19. “We watched part of the Atlantis game back and it was clear our performance was not up to scratch, especially in possession, giving the ball away and being quite sloppy. Being Tor Pendente, we want to control games a bit better than we did against Atlantis”.

“As players we know we have not played well enough as individuals and as a team. Looking at ourselves, we want to make sure we raise our level and produce better performances”, concluded Mazza.

The match is expected for this afternoon, with the video available on the St.Charlie Broadcasting Network’s Youtube channel.
